You may have been seeing “No Spend February” trending on social media lately. To catch you up to speed if you haven’t, it’s a recent effort to save money while drawing on the support of your community. For me, saving money is all about being more resourceful with the things I do have. For these two looks, I pulled only pieces that I already owned but just maybe hadn’t worn in a while. Many times when I’m styling outfits, I have an image in mind, and while I might be able to pull from what is already in my arsenal (read: wardrobe), sometimes I find myself going out and purchasing that much needed complementary piece.

For these featured looks, I challenged myself to only use what I already own. So many people, myself included, will stare at their jam-packed closets and think, “I have nothing to wear!” It might be akin to thinking you have nothing to eat for dinner, and just when you are about to throw in the towel and splurge on Seamless or DoorDash or make an unnecessary trip to Whole Foods, you actually decide to challenge yourself with the ingredients you already do have on hand. Sometimes it is in these exact situations that you can whip up the most creative and delicious meals!

First, I pulled this beautiful powder blue wrap coat from my closet and decided to make it my central piece. I had ordered this a few months back (and wore it here) but really hadn’t put it to good use. I felt so guilty because the coat is a nice weight: much heavier and warmer than a trench, but not quite a winter coat either. It’s the perfect coat for temperate winter days, and the style works well for both fall and spring, too. Win-win all around! Also, the color I’m wearing is called “silver,” but it comes in a gorgeous ivory and classic black as well. The silvery blue color works well as a neutral though, since it is such a subtle blue hue.

Keep scrolling for the full details on the two looks I styled and my thought process behind them.

Look 1: Parisian Bold for the On-Trend Fashionista

Powder blue wrap coat || Velvet mock neck || Wool beret || Tartan scarf || Black high waisted denim || Over-the-knee boots || Bow basket tote || Red lipstick + lipliner

More and more often, I’ve been switching up my signature feminine style by contrasting dainty fabrics like lace with edgier pieces such as leather – like I did this past fall. This pretty powder wrap coat initially struck me as a fairly refined and feminine piece. I decided to pair it with high waisted moto jeans to give it a little edge. Since this coat is meant to be worn open, I found that a pair of skinny jeans gave the look a chic silhouette.

I’ve been seeing berets everywhere lately. This past fall I picked up this black wool option (worn here), but I didn’t quite feel like it suited me. Since trying it on a few more times, I’m a convert and totally love the look. It gave my outfit a very Parisian flair, which I definitely didn’t hate. I threw on a pair of over-the-knee boots to go with my moto jeans.

To bring out the red in my scarf and to really complete my chic Parisian look, I grabbed this bow basket tote (also seen here) and headed out the door for an afternoon of walking around Lenox.

Look 2: Feminine Pastels for the Girly Girl

Powder blue wrap coat || Pink knit turtleneck || Striped midi skirt (similar here, here and here) || Mini square handbag || Pom pom mules || Lipstick + Lipliner || Earrings

The very next day, I decided to challenge myself once again to pull together an outfit based on my renewed love for this powder blue wrap coat. This time, I went the more traditional route with my favorite classic feminine hues: soft blush pink and pale blue. A pink turtleneck was a great complement to my favorite Club Monaco skirt from last year. I wore this adorable little big square bag during New York Fashion Week, and it proved to be my perfect companion with this look. It just fits my cellphone, lipgloss and a few cards, but that’s really all you need, isn’t it?

This “girly girl” look is definitely the most true-to-me style, and I felt so cheerful and uplifted in these colors. The funny thing about midi skirts is that they really are great for both summer and winter. In the summer they are breezy and flowy and on a (warm-ish) winter day, they actually add a nice layer of warmth.

My last addition to this outfit was my favorite pair of pom pom mules. I’ve worn these time and time again, but they are just the sweetest “no fail” shoe that always leaves me feeling chic.

So, in the spirit of “No Spend February” and being more resourceful, how are you planning to repurpose a few key pieces in your wardrobe? I actually had so much fun challenging myself to create new looks from pieces I already own, and it really forced me to get creative. Next time I’m standing in my bathroom staring into my closet wondering what on earth I will wear, I’m going to think of this post. I’m going to challenge myself to come up with a completely new outfit, and I’m going to own it!

What pieces do you already own that you could create a brand new look around?
