I usually try to keep my summer packing list simple for long weekends, especially in the summer. I’m a notorious over-packer, but for a quick weekend trip, I do my best to keep it light. That might mean a couple of easy outfits, a bathing suit, and of course, a few can’t-live-without beauty products. Most weekends I’m headed out of the city… whether that is to the Berkshires, Cape Cod or somewhere else! In order to be prepared, I almost always have a perpetually packed weekender bag with the must-haves. Each Friday before I leave, I just swap out my clothing.
My Top 6 Summer Packing List Must-Haves
ONE // Neutrogena® Protect and Tint Tinted Moisturizer, SPF 30
Summer weekends are about keeping life simple, which is why a tinted moisturizer with SPF is critical! I always look for a product with at least 30 SPF to prevent sun damage, and I use the Neutrogena® Protect + Tint Tinted Moisturizer in “fair to light.” It gives me just the right level of coverage and contains vitamins A, C, and E.
TWO // Neutrogena® Sheer Smooch Tinted Lip Oil
The salt and sun can take a toll, so I always make sure to bring a highly moisturizing lip product. I love to give my lips a little extra color, but I don’t want anything too heavy in the summer. This lip oil is ultra hydrating, infused with Vitamin E, camellia seed oil, sunflower seed oil, and jojoba oil. I use Sheer Smooch Sheer Lip Oil in “wink and wave” for that extra girly sheen of pink. Summer trips mean bathing suits and lots of white pants and skirts. That means you never EVER want to be caught without a tampon! I’ve been using these for years because they are so compact. These have been such lifesavers for me on many occasions, so I ALWAYS pack them for any type of beach vacation. If you forget a beach towel or one isn’t provided, these do the trick. One of these towels is also great as a beach blanket, or for a picnic. Plus, one can even double as a sarong. During my recent trip to Mexico, we were asked to reuse our towels for several days, and these Turkish towels came in so handy. They fold up quite small since they are so lightweight. Really, a packing-list no brainer.
FIVE // Wide Brimmed Hat
Now that I’m more aware than ever of the aging effects of the sun, I always want to be protected. Whether for an outdoor walk or reading on the beach, I never regret shielding myself from the intensity of the sun. This one’s important – your skin (and your eyes) will thank you later.
SIX // Straw Tote Bag
As much as I love my giant carry-all weekender, I always make sure to bring a smaller tote too. I bring this small straw bag that I got from a street vendor in Mexico. It’s just the perfect size for all of the above-mentioned must-haves, plus a good book! I’m used to lugging around a giant bag with lots of extras, but these days I’m opting to go leaner and just carry the essentials.
