Historic Style Inspiration

There is something to be said about classic and timeless style. Certain fashion icons stand out throughout the decades with signature styles that are so timeless, their looks are relevant even in today’s world. Particular dress cuts (sheath, fit & flare) and patterns (pinks, florals) seemingly will never go out of style. Join me as I round up a few of my favorite historic style icons and how I would recreate the looks with modern pieces.

There is no doubt Jackie was an inspiration for women in the 1960s (this pink Chanel suit lives on in infamy) and is still an icon today, but I especially love the above photo taken during her trip to India. That dress with those nude pumps are just so perfect, and of course, she is holding a pair of oversized sunglasses.

2 // Audrey Hepburn

Audrey’s outfit in Breakfast at Tiffany’s just has to be one of the most recreated looks of all time, particularly for Halloween costumes. Although I do love that iconic and lavish look, I love Audrey in this pink dress even more. It’s so clean-looking, yet so extravagant. I would be happy to don a simplified version of this dress with plenty of pearls.

3 // Marilyn Monroe

Known best as the dress Marilyn wore in her unfinished movie, Something’s Gotta Give, this fitted floral dress is absolute perfection. Something about floral patters will always be loved and cherished, and the simplicity of a sheath dress makes it quite versatile.
