Happy Thursday, everyone! To start off with a funny story: one day last summer I totally had a complete Marilyn Monroe moment (actually wearing the dress from this post) when my skirt blew up passing by a subway grate. I wasn’t even very close to the grate, and I’m not sure exactly how it happened, but some combination of wind and the ventilation from the subway below cause my skirt to completely blow up – waist high!! The worst part about it was there were plenty of witnesses…construction workers having lunch on the sidewalk and other passersby in a hurry to grab lunch on their breaks. SUPER embarrassing. Luckily, I had some friends there with me to laugh it off and everyone just thought it was pretty funny 🙂
After that experience though I’m quite sensitive to wearing skirts on windy days – I’m definitely not trying to have a repeat of that moment last summer! The day we were shooting these photos was a little bit windy. Needless to say, I was a little nervous about this; however it actually worked out for the best because we got some shots with the skirt fluttering in the breeze.
Yesterday I mentioned that lately I’ve been feeling a lot more comfortable in longer skirts and dresses than I used to! In years past I always gravitated toward shorter hemlines – usually shift dresses. For whatever reason, I was just always drawn to the cut of shift dresses (like this one). Unfortunately, those dresses are not always cut appropriately for someone who is 5’9″ and that can be disappointing at times. But lately, just like in yesterday’s post, I am much happier in a slightly longer dress hitting closer to the knee, or even a midi length skirt/dress!
This dusty rose blush tone – my ideal! I picked out this midi skirt (update: sold out, but very similar here) because I loved the color and the the pleats (and it was reasonably priced!!). The lightweight jersey-like material allows it to swing nicely when walking.

These Sam Edelman shoes have actually been a part of my closet for a while now. they are super comfortable, and because the ankle strap is extra wide, they provide a lot of support and stability that you might not find in another heel. Nude heels generally go with anything, so having a few options on hand is a must!
Please tell me I’m not the only one who has had a super embarrassing Marilyn Monroe moment…there have got to be some of you that can relate?!
