6 Cape Cod Hot Spots to Visit this Summer

1. Baxter’s Boathouse // The fish and chips here is the best I’ve ever had. Ever. Coming from someone who is not a huge fan of fish in general, the fresh New England catch of the day in the perfect batter is done right. The batter is light and the fish is flaky. Baxter’s is worth it every time. The best part is that you can even drive your boat right up to the dock and be served right there or hop off for an indoor or an outdoor lunch.

2. Sundae School Ice Cream // I’ve blogged about this one already, but it really is the best ice cream around.  For me, an ice cream cone after dinner every once in a while is a quintessential summer activity. Sundae School is quite packed in the evenings because it is so popular, especially because all of the ingredients are good ones – and that means no food dyes!

3. Chatham Squire // This is a restaurant I’ve been visiting for ages. It never really seems to change, and going back is familiar and homey. With classic nautical decor and traditional New England fare, the Squire is definitely a favorite. Be sure to try the (giant!!) squire stuffed clam.

4. Mermaid Saltwater Taffy // We never leave Cape Cod without a giant box of Mermaid Brand Taffy. It has to be one of my most cherished summer rituals. It’s really just a stand on the side of the road, but with all the flavors lined up for you to sample and add to your box. There is always a new flavor of the week, and I just love trying them out. My favorites are fluffernutter and rum raisin.

5. Chatham Bars Inn // This place embodies everything about Cape Cod, and it has to be the prettiest place around in the summer. I used to come here for a week on family summer vacations, and we just loved it. It’s such a magical place; there are hydrangeas in full bloom everywhere, life-sized chess sets, and a beautiful view overlooking the ocean. I have the fondest memories of time well-spent here. Even now, I love to stop by for a leisurely brunch on the patio.

6. Marylou’s Coffee // The cutest coffee shop around. Everything is pink! And the flavors are so unique. Everything from peanut butter cup (which is pretty chocolate-y) to Irish cream coffee can be whipped up with the variety of flavored coffees and syrups available. We always stop in for a fun concoction for the drive back to Boston. (That is, if we are not too busy munching on all that taffy we just purchased!)
