Waiting On Spring…

Welcome to spring! Would you just look at all of that green grass and those fresh blooms! Aren’t they gorgeous?! Just kidding. But I do have to admit that even this snowy wonderland is quite beautiful. This past Saturday and Sunday, it snowed and snowed, and I think this is Mother Nature’s way of playing an April fool’s joke on us. Well, as I try to get away with wearing dresses without tights and with lighter jackets, the joke is certainly on me!

After a very blustery and stormy Sunday morning trip to church, the sun came out and shone down so brightly – really warming everything right up. So much, actually, that ice and snow were falling off tree branches left and right. We headed to brunch downtown and were almost hit with flying water and ice more times than I can count.

Later, we headed out of the city to the Blue Hills Reservation, and oh my, I always forget how sparkling and peaceful the whole world looks after a fresh snowfall. Everything is so…quiet. We had wanted to hike to the top of the hill to see the views of the city, but it was so cold and we weren’t really dressed appropriately. Although I resisted because, well, it’s April, I really should have been wearing my big parka (get 25% off with code ‘FRIENDS’ at check out…now is a great time to buy a new winter coat if you can find your size). I guess we’ll just have to come back to the reservation once spring decides to stay.

For such windy, blustery and snowy days, I like to contain my hair in an easy braid. My hair is so fine, that if I were to curl it on a day like this, it would just end up being pretty limp. A fishtail braid stays in place a bit better for me than a regular braid, so this was my hairstyle of choice for the day. You can see my fishtail braid hair tutorial here to recreate the look.

I am so ready to retire my Bean boots for the season (which I haven’t done yet, thankfully), so for our little adventure, I opted for my short green Hunter boots instead (also worn here and here).  Hunter boots are such a lifesaver in poor weather conditions. I wear them commuting to and from the office often all throughout the year, so whenever the weather is a little questionable, I almost always throw these on. I’d rather wear rubber boots and change when I get there, than ruin a nice pair of shoes (and it’s no secret how much I value my shoes)!

Jacket: Barbour // Sweater: Banana Republic // Dress: Goodnight Macaroon // Bag: Kate Spade (similar) // Boots: Hunter // Sunnies: Urban Outfitters

I’ve been trying to slowly incorporate more and more light patterns and florals into my wardrobe as the weather warms. This floral dress (now back in stock!) from Goodnight Macaroon was one of my favorites from last summer (seen here) that I layered over tights and under a sweater this weekend.

This snowstorm left me dreaming of a tropical island getaway…where I am actually headed in just a few weeks!!! The current sale situation (both Bloomingdales ‘FRIENDS’ and Shopbop ‘INTHEFAM’) prompted me to pick up a few new pieces for my trip. Can’t want to show you guys soon!

Anyone else shopping the sales this week?

Such an interesting read! It makes sense that the snow absorbs more sound, but I never really thought about it! Thanks so much for sharing 🙂
