Something to know: Champagne – vs – Prosecco – vs – Cava … What is the difference?

Basically, these are all types of sparking wine. Champagne can only be called champagne if the grapes used to make it were grown in the Champagne region of France. There are other criteria regarding fermentation and carbonation, but even if wineries outside this particular region of France follow these practices, their products are still “sparkling wine” and not champagne. Prosecco, on the other hand, is sparkling wine produced from grape varietals grown in Italy. Lastly….cava! Most people seem to be very unfamiliar with cava; however, it is some of the best sparkling white or rosé wine from Catalonia, Spain.
