Puffers of All Prices

It’s starting to get very chilly out there! If you’re not prepared for the icy season ahead, you had better get started now. Living in the city means a lot of walking, and winter in the city means dealing with all the elements – harsh wind, snowstorms and a bitter chill. If you’re located in the northern United States (hello New England winters), then one of these mid-thigh (or longer!) down puffers is an absolute must! These sell out fast and are almost completely impossible to buy after December. One year I had mine stolen, and finding a replacement coat in my size was so difficult. I ended up with a reddish-pink version of #4, because let me tell you, it was slim picking!

Check out my top picks for warm down jackets across a variety of price points:

1 // Ultralight Down Coat ($229 + free shipping) // This coat is probably the lightest weight of the bunch, but still warm! Thanks mostly to the goose down feathers, it’s astonishing how something so light can provide such spectacular insulation.

2 // Downtown Loft Parka ($379 + free 2-day shipping) // This will most probably be my next winter coat, as I have tried it on in the store several times. I currently own the slightly less warm, slightly shorter version of this coat (see #7) and am thinking this would be the perfect upgrade.

3 // Belted Down & Feather Fill Cargo Coat (currently $218.90 with 33% off + free shipping) // I like the belted look of this option for a more flattering and feminine feel. The army green color is a nice alternative to black or gray as well!

4 // Lodge Down Parka ($160.30 using code ‘PEAK’ + free shipping through Sunday!) // This is probably the warmest coat I have personally ever owned. I bought the coat on a whim (in an unfortunate red/pink color), but it turned out to be far warmer than I had expected. Even after I got a replacement for my stolen and absolute favorite coat (#7), I still wore this one from time to time on chillier days.

5 // Heatherton Parka ($645 + free shipping) // This coat is a major splurge, but it’s worth it. A Canada Goose coat is definitely the way to go for a New England winter, as the warmest of the warm. In my opinion, it is of the highest quality available (currently saving up for one)!

6 // Hooded Down Jacket ($279 + free shipping) // Here’s a very simple, classic coat; great for daily wear all winter long and flattering on all figures.

7 // Down With It Parka ($299 + free 2-day shipping) // This is my go-to winter coat. My mom and sister also own this coat, and we all love it. It’s the perfect winter coat. It’s not super bulky, but it is still very warm. It’s not the absolute warmest on the market, but it’s definitely my top pick from this list in terms of price and quality! Also the geese from which these feathers were sourced are treated humanely (i.e., never force fed or live plucked), which is of course a great process to support.

8 // Ultrawarm Coat ($199 + free shipping) // Here’s another great and affordable option. I love a good faux fur hood too – there is really nothing better then throwing that over your head to shield you from the wind or oncoming flurries.

Stay warm!
