Admittedly, piecing together this gallery wall has taken much longer than anticipated. Having envisioned this in place and adding some life to the light gray walls throughout the apartment since moving in almost a year ago, I have been on the hunt for the perfect pieces. As a person who is aesthetically pleased by symmetry and clean lines, I knew I wanted the gallery wall to retain some aspect of balance; however, I also wanted to add lots of different colors and frames. The roommates and I decided to stick with crisp white, gold and black frames. Staying away from silvers, other metals and wood frames did help achieve some cohesion.
I’ll admit I struggled significantly with the whole mismatched look that we were going for, but I had a vision in my head and was able to stick with it for the most part. Finding the right frames was tricky. I had the best luck at the hardware store nearby. They had lots of really simple basic black frames. I picked up several of those in the right sizes as well as a can of spray paint. I found spray paint was the easiest way to keep the overall cost down, while still getting the frame colors I wanted. Plus, I know my can of gold spray paint will come in very handy again soon. Another pro tip: Etsy has some great downloadable options that are only a few dollars. I printed them on thick resume paper, and they came out looking great.
In columns from left to right: Chanel nail polish // heart of gold (on white) // pink pineapple // French macarons // Massachusetts map // lemon bicycle wheels // dream big // salt water cure // pink flamingo // stop and smell the roses // ampersand // joie // spectacles
Anyone else have some pro tips for designing the perfect gallery wall? xo -L
Super adorable! I love it. I’m obsessed with macarons so I really love that Laduree print!
Thank you! I’m obsessed with them as well 🙂
Love it, so gorgeous and fun! I’m hoping to do something similar to this in the new university room… although it’ll probably be even more DIY haha 😉 Great post x

I definitely recommend printing some downloading images from Etsy on resume paper or cardstock and picking up cheap frames from Amazon or the hardware store if you are going the DIY route 🙂
