Last summer, I learned about the sweetest little cupcake shop in downtown Hyannis, called Little Miss Cupcape. I mean, how amazing is that name?! The shop itself is charming and bright with lots and lots of color, and the cupcakes…just perfectly sweet in all the right ways. The brains behind it all, Taylor Stump, is even sweeter. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to chat with Taylor and learn a little more about her story. Having graduated college in May 2014, the shop officially opened for business in June 2014. With all the research, planning, and investments that go into starting a business, I am thoroughly impressed that Taylor was able to get this off the ground during her senior year of college. She says that she walked off the stage on graduation day and headed straight to Cape Cod for cleaning and construction in the shop the very next day.
Taylor calls herself a “wash ashore” since she is originally from Ohio, but her work exhibits lots of touches of New England style (hello Vineyard Vanilla, Wicked Awesome Oreo and Red Sox Red Velvet). Taylor does a lot of the baking herself – she’s come up with all the recipes and is in the kitchen every single morning hard at work.
Originally gravitating toward the fashion industry, Taylor found that baking cupcakes allowed her creativity to shine through. While studying business in college, she spent a great deal of time researching cupcake trends and writing her business plan, so she knew what had to be done upon graduation. Using only high quality ingredients (yes, that means REAL butter), Taylor knows the keys to success. She also theorizes that the reason for other cupcake companies’ failures as of late has all to do with a loss of quality due to mass production.
Taylor is such an inspiration, and if you ever find yourself in downtown Hyannis, you absolutely must pop into Little Miss Cupcape. My favorite treats are the Little Miss Cupcape cupcake (fluffy vanilla cake baked with fresh strawberries, filled with a strawberry marshmallow cream, iced with strawberry buttercream and topped with a pink candy bow and rainbow sprinkles) and the mini cupcakes (chocolate covered)! I had such a fun time bopping around the whimsical shop, and I took home quite a few a lot of cupcakes to sample.
