Jost Van Dyke Day Trip

Visiting the B.V.I.

Having been lucky enough to visit St. Thomas recently, I feel even more blessed to have been able to hop aboard the Ritz Carlton catamaran, Lady Lynsey, for a day trip to the British Virgin Islands. The whole week spent in St. Thomas was incredible, but the excursion to the BVI was all the more surreal. I had been to a few of the BVI when I was younger, like the baths in Virgin Gorda, but I had never visited White Bay on Jost Van Dyke – home of the famous Soggy Dollar bar.

If you follow me on Instagram (@thelilacpress), you might’ve seen this Instagram and that I mentioned all the painkillers we’d been trying. I quickly realized that maybe I should have been more clear about that – the painkiller is a pineapple coconut rum drink originally invented by the Soggy Dollar. It just tastes like vacation.

Looking back on all of these photos now, I’m dying to plan a trip back! I’d love to spend a little more time in the BVI. Before arriving at Jost Van Dyke, we went snorkeling with the prettiest fish, but it wasn’t enough! I could have spent all day in the water, but after lots of swimming we were all ready to hit the beach and enjoy some refreshments.

I knew I’d be in my bathing suit for most of the day, so I made sure to wear a suit I’d feel super comfortable in for a long period of time. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been a bikini kind of girl, but recently I’ve been exploring different styles as well as one-pieces. My current favorite style suit to wear is a high waisted bikini, like the Tommy Hilfiger one I’m wearing here. I feel covered and confident in this style, so I knew it would be great for wearing all day (I wore a very similar style last year, too).

When I was shopping for vacation, I knew I wanted a coverup that would be lightweight, loose-fitting and comfortable, but also cute, of course! Splendid is one of my favorite brands (i.e., these pjs and this shirtdress) because everything is just so soft, so when I came across this Splendid chambray dress, I knew it would be the perfect piece to the day long excursion.
