Do you ever wish your hair was fuller and bouncier? I sure do! As a girl who was (and mostly still is) addicted to my curling wand, I love a full head of bouncy curls or waves. Having recently committed to not using heat on my hair more than once per week, I try to plan my hairstyles strategically around upcoming events. Challenging myself to avoid using heat for the past few months has really helped my hair to becoming healthier and stronger. It actually even feels thicker now! I have no intention of straying from my go-to no-heat hairstyles more than once a week; however, when I do, I prefer low heat.
One way to add lots of volume is with hot rollers! Hot rollers are a great way to use a low level of heat, but still achieve a lovely voluminous look. Personally, I have very fine hair, and hot rollers give it that extra something special I often feel is missing.
T3 hot rollers come in a cute carrying case and are easy for traveling. To get started, simply pull out the charging base with the set of rollers and plug it in. There are two heat settings, and I always opt for the lower one. The high heat setting is almost too hot to handle, so in the interest of saving my hair and not burning my fingers, I go for low heat.
Once the indicator light shows the rollers are ready, pick up one of the bigger rollers by the edges. Handling the roller by the edges only, wrap a 3-inch face-framing section of hair around it. Starting at the ends of your hair, roll it all the way up and away from your face. Once the roller is at the crown of your head, secure with a large clip. I like to use the bigger 3/4″ rollers around my face and the smaller 1/2″ rollers in the back.
After about 10-20 minutes, slowly unwrap each roller one at time. If desired, you can add a little bit of hairspray at this point. I usually skip the hairspray if I’m only trying to add a bit of volume. However, if I’m trying to maintain the actual shape of each curl, a little spritz of hairspray definitely helps a lot.
After removing all the rollers, lightly tousle with your fingers. You can even use a tangle teezer to fluff up the hair around the crown and brush out the curls for an even looser look. I generally just run my fingers through my hair and head on my way. Here’s a peek at what my hair looked like after a couple of hours without hairspray.
Be sure your hair is well conditioned and that you are using the right products. My current favorites are argan oil to seal the ends, this leave in conditioner, and this keratin treatment. Check out my regularly updated hair care must-haves here.
