I get it – we all have crazy busy schedules and hectic lives. But, it’s still so important to take some time for self-care. I’ve teamed up with Hair Cuttery to share one of my favorite routines for unwinding to feel refreshed and rejuvenated. Self-care certainly looks different for everyone, but there’s never any harm in giving your hair a little extra TLC. Personally, I feel my best when I have a fresh blowout and loose waves, but all that heat surely takes its toll on my hair.
When I was in 7th or 8th grade, I specifically remember my best friend coming over, and we made our own hair masks out of raw eggs (ew!) and avocados (and honestly who even knows what else we threw in that blender…), and if my memory serves me, we made face masks out of oatmeal, too! It may have seemed silly back then, but I just remember feeling so renewed, and actually empowered, afterward. This self-care tradition is something I have continued to carry through to my adult life, as well! Now, I love the It’s a 10 Miracle Hair Mask, available online or at one of the many Hair Cuttery salons in your area.
On the weekends, or maybe even a weeknight when I have a little extra time, I like to give my hair that boost of moisture. Besides, doing a deep conditioning hair mask means you’ve got some spare time to kill – why not read a magazine or watch your favorite series? Guilt-free, of course!! Because you deserve some downtime!
Watch the video for my full haircare ritual. I’ve been doing hair masks for as long as I can remember because I was always worried about my hair getting damaged. Now, I look forward to those days when I have some time to dedicate to self-care. Since the longer you leave the hair mask in, the better it will be able to condition your hair, you’ll definitely have some time to kill. While I let the conditioner soak in, I like to drink some lemon detox water and read a magazine. Or sometimes, I like to enjoy a hot cup of coffee and watch an episode of a favorite series (thank you to everyone who gave recommendations in response to my Instagram stories). I might even put on an eye mask and indulge in a glass of red wine if its the weekend!
After blow drying, I usually will throw a few curls in my hair with a 1.25 inch curling wand. Always on the pursuit for a little extra volume, sometimes hot tools are just unavoidable for me. In order to keep my hair moisturized and nourished, I’ve been using Cibu’s argan oil treatment for over a year now, and my hair has been markedly stronger. I’ve found my hair has been growing a lot faster this past year. I suspect that it hasn’t actually been growing at a faster rate, but instead that the ends haven’t been experiencing as much breakage.
However you like to unwind and relax, there is no disputing the value of self-care. It seems like we all lead these unsustainable lifestyles, and for me personally, I know that some days are just so over-scheduled that I end up truly regretting saying “yes” to too many things. But, other days when I take the time to relax and nourish my body and mind, I know I’m able to recharge so that I can take on the next challenge.
How do you do self-care?
