Now that I’m back in the swing of it, I’m here to chat about one of my favorite things…hair products, of course! More specifically, hair essentials for a weekend getaway! As a self-proclaimed product junkie, I absolutely love testing and trying new products. I most certainly have my favorites, and these days I’m loving the Cibu line. While I love to travel, and I especially love to do a few weekend getaways in the summer, I do NOT like to be without my favorite products. If I forget something important, like moisturizer, I miss it SO much, and it’s truly magical when I get home and am reunited with it. I know, I know….this might make me a little high maintenance. But, what can I say? I love my beauty products!
Shampoo + Conditioner
My best travel hack is to stock up on minis of your favorite products! Really, this isn’t even a hack more than me sharing some of my favorite travel minis. Sometimes hotels can have an awesome shampoo, but sometimes it isn’t such a great situation. The feeling of dry, brittle, snarly hair is just no fun. So, I always pack my own shampoo and conditioner, and I love Cibu Color Shampoo & Conditioner. I love them because they are sulfate-free and color-safe so they nourish and protect my color treated hair, plus they have antioxidants derived from green tea to minimize color fading. My hair feels soft and healthy after I use Cibu and the travel bottles are so thin and sleek – they slip right into any travel bag. Why wouldn’t I bring them along?!
Argan Oil Treatment
If I’m going anywhere for an extended period of time, or know that I will want to curl my hair nicely, I always bring argan oil! I love Cibu Argan Oil Treatment because it add shine and moisture to dehydrated hair. Having fairly long hair that I color (I get a balayage about 2x per year) and curl (more heat than I wish to admit), I’m always worried about breakage and dry split ends. To combat this, I like to use 1-2 pumps of the Argan Oil Treatment on wet hair before I blow dry because it protects agains environmental and thermal damage. Then, once I’m done blow drying and curling, I add just a tiny amount to the ends. This helps make my ends seem shinier and healthier (although they really should probably be cut)!
Dry Shampoo
Does any self-respecting human with long-hair travel ANYWHERE without dry shampoo these days?! I think not! Personally, I almost always have a travel sized dry shampoo on my person at all times. It might just be my current lifestyle, but I’m on the go a lot and sometimes things come up last minute. No matter where I’m going, but most especially for weekend trips, I ALWAYS pack dry shampoo. On a weekend getaway, I will probably only blow my hair out one time, so I want to make it last! I love the Cibu Ka Pow Dry Shampoo because it absorbs oil, extends my blowout and creates a little bit of texture for that lifeless second day hair. This one is a must!!!
Hair Spray
I have really fine hair, so summer humidity can make my hair fall limp. Try as I might to make beautiful curls or waves in the comfort of my air conditioned home, as soon as I step out into that East Coast humidity, they go lifeless. It’s actually quite comical…for me, at least! When I travel in the summer I always pack the Finista Flexible Finishing Spray because it provides a medium hold and is humidity resistant. I love it because it is paraben-free and contains argan and coconut oil to add shine. Plus, it smells amazing – slightly floraly, slightly fruity and completely fresh!
Nails
Since I was in at least middle school, but probably even earlier, I have loved to do my own manicures. Sure, going to the salon was a treat once in a while, but I loved to do my own! It was such a relaxing activity for me, and even now I find it therapeutic. I do my own nails at least once a week! The only problem with that is I’m pretty rough with them, especially when traveling- always reaching into a abyss of a handbag, scrounging around for something specific, or snagging them along a zipper. So now, I also travel with nail polish! I usually bring the current color on my nails for touch ups as well as a clear top coat just in case! Lately, I’m loving OPI Infinite Shine products because my home-mani lasts so much longer. For me, it might even last up to two weeks if I’m being extra careful! Win!
Best Travel Hair Hack
Tie it up with a scarf! Hair scarves are in right now, and boy am I so glad I jumped on the bandwagon! For travel days when hair is messy, or maybe you are even on the third (or fourth – I’m not judging!) day of your blow out but don’t have time to make your hair look cute, just tie it up with a scarf! My go-to is a simple, messy topknot. All I do is wrap a scarf around it and tie it, and voilà! A chic, effortless (seriously no-effort at all) way to go from drab to fab! Bonus points for making a cute ponytail or braid and getting creative with your scar!
