When thinking of how to title this post, I wanted to comment on the beautiful green floral print that first attracted me to this dress. Green isn’t often a color I go for, but this dress caught my eye. After reading up on the sustainability efforts of the brand, it was even more fitting that I chose the “green” dress.
There’s actually a story behind this dress. I was lucky to meet Stacy London (who else was OBSESSED with What Not to Wear?!? Honestly, I’ve seen every single episode) on the set of the Rachael Ray show when I went to help Gretta Monahan a few weeks back. Stacy introduced me to The Kit, and I’ve loved shopping their site and reading up on their sustainability efforts. With this dress in particular, priced at $118, the style, quality, and especially the fit of this dress really can’t be beat.
The Kit cuts and prints fabric only for pieces that have already been ordered. Each piece has a home before it’s ever produced. By avoiding overproduction, this process generates less waste than traditional production. At the beginning of the process, only ink and fabric are spared for pieces that have been ordered. Them, at the end of the product lifecycle, fewer pieces will end up in a landfill. After doing some research on consignment shopping in my last post, I’ve learned so much about the pollutants and waste generated by the fashion industry. I’ve started to be a more conscious shopper and prioritize brands that prioritize sustainability.

Although it’s fairly common knowledge that the fashion industry produces a lot of waste, it’s hard to change buying habits. I love to shop fast fashion, and until recently I had no idea that overproduced garments often end up in landfills. If I can make a small impact by trying to shop more sustainably, then I will surely do so.

For me, sustainable fashion means shopping with brands like The Kit. And no, this post isn’t sponsored or anything – I’m just a fan!!
