Creature of Comfort
I know, I know, the last thing you want to see is another wintry look. Let me just say up front, sorry! I used to be able to stand out in the freezing cold and shoot spring looks just for fun. For example, it was 29 degrees out the day I shot one of my favorite dresses (see it here), and now I look back on those days and wonder, “what was I thinking?!?!” Maybe I’ve just become a creature of comfort, but I really don’t like being cold. So, layers and layers are my defense until it warms up for good. At this rate, we probably won’t see that day until at least June.
One way that I embrace spring, despite frigid temperatures, is to shift the colors and prints in my wardrobe slightly. I start to veer away from dark hues, plaids and bulky sweaters to pretty pastels and lovely florals – albeit warm versions of these. I call this my winter-to-spring transition wardrobe.
Recently, I packed up two big trash bags of winter clothes to put into storage. Little did I know that it would actually SNOW two days later, so that was a big mistake. (I see you Mother Nature and your cruel April Fool’s joke). Fortunately, I had picked up this lilac puffer at the Shopbop sale a few weeks back, and I’m glad I did. I know what you are thinking, “why buy a winter coat at the end of the season?” And do that I have two answers: first, because it is still absolutely freezing out and I’m sick of wearing black, and second, because end-of-season styles are on major sale!!!! Unfortunately, my puffer is only available in a coral red color, but I linked a few similar options and colors above. Get them while the getting’s good!
Boots, Boots and More Boots
Let’s talk boots for a second. I’m usually a classic girl and rely on a simple pair of riding boots in the winter in addition to my tried-and-true Bean boots. Recently, Eastland Shoe sent me these boots to try, and I’ve been wearing them SO much more than I expected. The rubber sole is super durable, and the leather upper is the MOST comfortable. I’ve been opting for this pair to complete lots of different looks – it is amazing what a pair of utilitarian-style boots can do to dress down a more formal look. Here, I have them paired with distressed jeans to keep it casual, but the floral embrioidery keeps it feminine.
Your Favorite Crossybody
Lastly, I want to mention this crossbody. Aside from my shoe shelving unit I talked about in Instagram stories earlier this week, this crossbody is my most clicked product ever!! The brand, Hammitt, sent it to me to try a while back (if you’ve been following for a while, you definitely have seen it before). Since it is reversible and shows off a gorgeous cognac leather on one side and a rich black leather on the other, it matches with almost any outfit. It is the perfect size for a night out on the town OR for an epic day of exploring. Being big enough to carry all the essentials, it also lays flat against your hip so it’s never too bulky. This is one of my favorite pieces of all time, and is apparently one of yours, too!
How are you embracing this chilly (and snowy) start to Spring?
