Color. An expression of creativity, of emotion, of personality. Cheerful, bright colors can bring a sense of happiness and joy, while muted and subdued hues can evoke a sense of calmness. Color choice in fashion, decor and art is so personal since there is such a range of emotions that can be expressed through color. I don’t know about you, but in most cases I am a color-lover! Although I tend to opt for an understated and feminine color palette in my wardrobe choices, my eye is always drawn to bright and soft pinks, crimson reds, any shade of blue, and of course, lilac.
If you are a color-lover like me, the Wynwood Walls are a must–see when in Miami.
Wynwood is a district of Miami that had been known for its stark, windowless warehouse buildings. But recently (in the last 10 years or so), artists from near and far have come to transform blank canvases into brilliant and vibrant street art. I was fully expecting to see a handful of colorful walls (i.e., a certain few that have taken Instagram by storm) but I was blown away by the never ending maze of artistic expression.
As with any colorful outing, the question of what to wear for that perfect Instagrammable opportunity is always a dilemma (no shame in admitting this either). I opted for a simple little white dress, so as to avoid clashing with any of the walls. I am certain that I don’t need to reiterate this to any of you, but the perfect LWD is truly a staple that can be relied on all summer. This dress (paired with a fun pair of colorful mules) is easily appropriate not only for an evening exploring Miami, but many more summer events like Fourth of July cookouts, barbecues or just for drinks on a city roof deck.
Pro tip: Shop on Amazon! I got both of these pieces on Amazon for a great price – who knew?! I’ve been doing a surprising amount of my wardrobe shopping on Amazon and am eager to let everyone in on my secret.
During our Wynwood excursion, my travel buddy (and boyfriend) was most excited to see the famous Yoda “stop wars” wall. (Anyone else have a Star Wars fanatic close to your heart?) We spent hours walking up and down the art lined streets admiring the work, but also fiercely scouting the “Yoda wall.” After not much luck, an intense Google Maps (with street view) investigation, and asking several employees from the local businesses (none of whom knew anything about it), we determined that the wall with the Yoda mural has been painted over. Someone was very disappointed!!
Wynwood is easily a half day excursion, and I wish we’d had more time to spend there. Next trip to Miami I hope to pop back over to fully appreciate the ever-evolving art scene.
What are you favorite walls in the district?
