And then there was rest…

Spring forward; fall behind. That means this Saturday night, we will be getting an extra hour! Thank goodness. Most of us lead such busy lives and our smart phones adjust for Daylight Savings Time automatically that there is a good chance this extra hour will just be absorbed into our sleep schedules.

I think it is so important to practice gratitude and really appreciate this extra hour. Time is our greatest asset; however, time can also be the enemy. It seems there just can’t be enough hours in the day to get everything done, yet somehow we all manage. It’s so easy to get overwhelmed by the constant scheduling – between work and social obligations – that it is important not to underestimate the value of leisure time.

Whenever I get too caught up in the day-to-day, I usually start slipping up and making silly mistakes regularly. I find that this is when I really just need a day for myself. I took one Saturday afternoon recently to do just that. Between doing laundry, organizing paperwork and planning out my week, I felt so much more on top of things afterward. Next up, a little self pampering can definitely go a long way to get my mind back on track. Then, I like to spend time doing something I enjoy like reading a good book or watching a good movie to exercise other parts of my brain. After a Saturday night in like this, I woke up on Sunday feeling great and ready to tackle the week ahead.

Some necessities for a cozy night in:

Rest

1 // Lavender linen or room spray // Known for its calming effects, this scent creates an atmosphere conducive to relaxation. You can also make your own by combining a few drops of lavender essential oil with water in a spray bottle.

2 // Satin PJs // Lounge wear, especially this luxurious satin, is essential for a day like this.

3 // Glamglow facemask // See what all the buzz is about with this mask – or – check out my more affordable drugstore recommendation here.

4 // Deep moisturizer // With the dry winter season approaching ahead, keep skin feeling luminous with a deep moisturizers – I’ve been a long-time fan of this brand.

5 // The absolute coziest sweater-knit sherpa blanket // This blanket is beyond amazing. One side is sweater knit and the other is lined with super soft and cozy sherpa. This has been my favorite blanket for years – there is nothing better than cuddling up with this one.

6 // Fluffy bathrobe // Get cozy right out of the shower (or bubble bath!!) with a terry cloth robe.

7 // Soft-sole slippers // The lining of these Minnetonkas is the warmest around. I especially like slippers without soles for lounging around the house.

8 // Sleep mask // Do not let anyone disturb you. Get all the Z’s your schedule will allow for and block out light during nap time.

What will you do with your extra hour?
