Always Have Something to Wear this Fall

Fall Photo-1

Last Day of the #NSale

Today is the very last day of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale! I am certain that no one here really wants to start thinking about fall, but if you’re at all planning to add a few new pieces to your fall wardrobe this year, today is your last chance to get Nordstrom new fall arrivals at slashed prices. Prices will be back to normal tomorrow.

I’ve shared a little bit about my experience with the Nordstrom sale already including all my favorites currently on sale, how to shop the sale on a budget and keep the spending in check, as well as the pieces I’ve come home with already.

Since we are now getting down to the wire, I think we should all be practical with this sale. What do you really need for fall? I, for one, wanted to get a new pair of boots. Last year I seemed to wear the heels and soles of all my leather boots right out, and while I’m looking for a cobbler to get them fixed, I’d like to grab a new pair while prices are close to half off, in some cases.

Always have something to wear this fall

Beyond just browsing the sale, I’m sharing some practical tips for always having something to wear this fall!

ONE // First and foremost, think of all the events you might have upcoming. Are you back to school shopping? Are you looking to round out your fall office wardrobe? Any fall getaways planned? Perhaps a leaf peeping adventure or a trip to the farm for apple or pumpkin picking? Or, maybe you have a season of college football games coming up! Whatever you have coming up, make a little list (mental or otherwise) of those events (and don’t forget those Labor Day parties)!

TWO // Survey your current accessory situation. Think of the current shoes, bags and accessories you already have that are either multi-seasonal and can carry over from the summer, or of things you have from last year. Once you have a good inventory, you can start to assess what you might add to it.

THREE // Now, think of the day to day. Are you back to school shopping? Shop for at least 5 outfits comprised of pieces you will want to wear to class over and over. This will make it easier to mix and match later on. Shopping for a refreshed fall work wardrobe? Same logic applies. Aim for 5 outfits (one for each day of the week), but make sure each piece is a versatile staple that you truly love, so that you can interchange the pieces for new and refreshed looks for each variation. Think solids and neutrals for skirts, pants, blouses and sweaters.

FOUR // Keep your eye out for a few statement pieces to add a pop of color and dimension to your outfits. Since my strategy is often to pick out several solids and neutrals, I like to have a bright cardigan or a printed skirt to bring out every once in a while. What catches your eye? If you find a statement piece  you truly love – it just might be your new signature look!

How are you shopping for your fall wardrobe this year? I’d love to hear your tips!
