Skipping hot tools like blow dryers, curling irons, and straighteners every once in a while can help to preserve your hair’s strength and health. I’m challenging myself not to use hot tools on my hair more than once a week this summer. For the past two months, I’ve hardly used any heat at all. I curled my hair once for a few meetings in NYC and again for a bridal shower. Now that summer is here, it’s the perfect time to embrace our natural air dried hair – whether that means beachy waves or fun braids!
This year, I’ve been teaming up with Hair Cuttery on a series of posts all about hair health and hair styles! You can see my other posts here and here, but today we’re talking about three ways to style your air dried hair. Keep scrolling to see the video tutorial!
I’m quite committed to avoiding heat these days, and you may have even seen the post, 3 No Heat Hairstyles, in which I share photo tutorials of other versions of a fishtail and dutch braid, as well as a top knot. For this tutorial, I thought it would be more helpful to see me doing them in video form.
Here are a few ways I style my hair once it air dries:
Double braids into low bun – this is a really simple look that always impresses people! It can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion and will stay in place all day long.
Single dutch braid – this one is so effortless. It only takes a few minutes because if you do the braid using big strands of hair to create a thicker looking braid. Classic and simple!
Side fishtail braid – this one is a crowd pleaser! Fishtail braids were my thing in college. They were so easy to do but look so complex. I’d wear my hair fishtailed to class almost once a week, and you can too! Check out my past explanations and photo tutorials here and here, or watch the video below.

This is my first YouTube video, so I hope you guys like it! Let me know if you find this helpful and if you want to see more like this!
Enjoy!

Your hair is so pretty! I’ve been avoiding heat tools for the past 2 years now. I’ve found that the longer I avoided heat tools, the better my hair looked just air dried and brushed! I’m definitely going to try the double braids with bun look.
