10 Must-Do Activities Before Labor Day

For some reason, I’ve been feeling Labor Day’s impending arrival lately. The last few weeks of summer are kind of like a very prolonged version of the “Sunday scaries.” Even now that I’m not going back to school in a few short weeks, I still feel that sinking feeling that summer is ending soon. To combat this end-of-summer dread, I’ve rounded up a few activities to be sure to do before Labor Day rolls around.end of summer

  1. Wear white. As much as possible. Although I don’t necessarily believe in or abide by the rule that white dresses, pants and shoes should not be worn after Labor Day, I still like to rotate through my white wardrobe as much as possible before that fated day passes. My favorite the only pants I seem to wear in the summer are these white jeans, and I will definitely be getting my money’s worth these next few weeks.
  2. Get bronze. Warm sunny days are limited, so soak up the rays while you can! You’ll be wishing you still had a healthy summer glow a few months from now. Of course, be sure to wear sunscreen. No one wants premature wrinkles.
  3. Drink iced coffee. I don’t know about anyone else, but even though I love iced coffee, I really only drink it from time to time in the summer. In the winter it is much too cold for me for iced coffee. And in the summer when I’m sitting in the air conditioning all day, I would much prefer a warm beverage to keep me comfortable.
  4. Pick your own berries. This is the season, especially if you are in New England. There is nothing better than Maine blueberries or local wild strawberries this time of year! If there is a farm nearby that allows you to pick your own, I highly suggest it! Take them home and make blueberry muffins or strawberry shortcake.
  5. Host a cookout. Hamburgers and hot dogs are never as appealing as they are when their smoky aroma is wafting up from a backyard grill. Not into meat? Grill up some fresh veggies and corn-on-the-cob. There is no better way to spend a summer evening with family or friends.
  6. Take a spontaneous beach day. If you live near the coast, make it a point to visit the beach for the day at least once more before the temperatures start dropping. If you don’t, I promise you will regret it come winter.
  7. Go out for ice cream. Real ice cream. I don’t mean froyo. Go to a classic ice cream stand, and order up your favorite creamy flavor. Ice cream reminds me of summertime as a child, and I like to reminisce every once in a while.
  8. Have a picnic. Take advantage of the local parks and gardens. Pack up some bread and cheese and fruit to munch on outdoors with friends.
  9. Wear sandals to work. Most workplaces today allow this anyway, but even if your office dress code is business casual, open-toed shoes are generally still accepted in the summer. This doesn’t mean flip-flops; however, but a nice sandal or Jack Rogers is okay!
  10. Make s’mores. Roast marshmallows around the campfire for traditional s’mores or get crafty and create your own variation, like I did here.

What is something you will make sure to do before summer’s end?    xo -L
